The players are well rested and feeling fresh after the weekend off footy. We hope you are as keen as they are to launch into the second half of the season.

Below you will find the ladders at the halfway point - the A grade are sitting mid pack and are knocking on the door and will look to improve on the 5-4 result of the front 9. The B grade have a considerably harder assignment after a single win in the first half of the season; they need everyone out there to cheer them on and try and gain some momentum for the home straight.

Get down to the Den this week - the weather will be a tasty 18 degrees and sunny with a high chance of two dragon wins!

What a fantastic day we had at the Den last Saturday. As children launched themselves into the air on an interstingly placed bouncy castle behind the northern goals thirty odd somewhat mishapen retired Dragons took the field for another hugely successful WOSBEENS legends game - thanks to Hux for organising it again.

Although the B-Grade couldn't get across the line the A-Grade clawed back after a shocking first half to win by 9 points against Portland. Following the game we held the first 'Day at the Fishes' fish racing carnival where the world's best goldfish raced down the 4m straight late into the night under the watchful eye of race-master Cod E. Boylan. To the victor went the spoils with the lucky owners of 'More Smoke' taking home a lifesized bronze fish trophy as well as a healthy sum of dragon dollars.

This week the dragons take on SMOSH West Lakes at West Lakes Shore Oval (address below)

Located at the bottom of diagonal road just a stones throw away from the iconic glenelg beach - the holdy is your go to destination for a summer brew in its newly renovated beer garden or a quiet winter red with friends in its nautical themed front bar. A selection of street foods can be found on The Holdy's delicious menu and if you are a lucky duck you might even see our club coach Luke Donaldson floating around the place.

Wowee what a week it has been and will be for the WOSFC. The B-Grade recorded their first win of the year and will no doubt build momentum and be full of confidence to notch another one against Portland at home this Saturday. The A-Grade lost big Phil Middlin to a concussion early in the game and struggled to regain composure after a 6 goal lead in the first dwindled to nothing in the second. They steadied ship however but couldn't quite get across the line losing by the narrow margin of two points.

This week the big news is our curtain raiser past player 'slow-down' style exhibition match affectionately known as the WOSBEENS. Hux has again headed up the organisation of this great event and will be introducing some new innovations including a half time handball competition for the kids. The game starts at 10am followed by the B-grade at 12.15pm and A-grade at 2.15pm.

Following the game we will be introducing yet another exciting new innovation - we truly are raising the bar in 2017. Cody Boylan heads up 'A Day at the Fishes' - our very first fish racing carnival. This event is sure to be a spectacle not to be missed - load up on your favourite fish after watching the 'Just the Tip' race review completed by our very own fish racing expert Alex Streckbein (visit facebook.com/wosfc tomorrow)

After a better week on the field last week, our Dragons take to Glandore Oval again on Saturday against the Plympton Bulldogs.

In what will be a grudge match for some of our newest brothers including Jack Hoad, Phil Middlin, Liam Rayner and our Dragon royalty Andy Thoma & Alex Jackson – the Bulldogs will be out for Dragon blood. They will need to bark up another tree however as we don’t like to give anything away when playing at home.

With plenty of movement in the playing group, we will see some fresh faces and bodies take to the field on the weekend whilst we look to cement our footing in Division 3. The A’s will look to build on their solid win over Golden Grove last week and the B grade are looking for their first win of the season, we all sense it is coming together nicely.

On the sidelines there will be some gourmet footy eats, marching band and plenty of green! Okay no marching band but resident Saturday Barbie Master Anthony ‘Doctor Dig’ Huxtable will be harking back to his Italian roots to create some wonderful wood fired pizzas for the punters.

The kids room will be open and ready to play and the beer / wine will be chilled. Stick around for presentations at approximately 5:30pm, dinner at around 6pm (kids dinner at 5pm) and then kick back for the evening in front of our cozy wood fire (or photo thereof).

You know the drill, get into your greens (merchandise is available for sale if you need a top up) and get down to Glandore at 12:15pm for the B grade kick off followed by 2:15pm for the A’s.

This week marks a momentous occasion in your annual calendar - The Dragons are back at Glandore - and we want to see YOU there to cheer us on.

The Dragons are coming off a close loss to undefeated side Flinders Park and the Kookaburras will no doubt be cock-a-hoop after dispatching Walkerville to the tune of 76 points at the Grove. If you know anything about us Dragons however you know that we love to take a big fish down a peg especially when they venture into our big green pond. You can expect to see the likes of Blesing, Malcolm, Goodes and young gun Harrison 'Esky' Lienert back up solid performances against Flinders Park. We also have a handful of experienced senior players putting their hand up to enter the fray this week and bolster an already impressive dragons unit.

This Saturday is PARENTS & SUPPORTERS DAY + NIGHT - we look forward to welcoming as many dragon fans as possible to the Den so that we can say thanks for supporting us.

Any parent or supporter that adds their name to our database will recieve a free drink on us.

Following the game we will prepare dinner for the kids at 5pm followed by presentations at 5:30pm. Dinner will then be served followed by happy hour from 6-7pm.

However the big news is that our very own in house DJ JIM REU will take to the decks from 8pm. Prepare your ears to bleed and your hearts to melt as Jim does what he does best deep into the night. We suspect he won't be the only one with a serious knee injury after you are done stomping the night away on the dance floor.

With Anzac Day approaching we are reminded of mateship, selflessness, courage, toughness and all the things that make this country great. What could be a better theme as we take on Flinders Park (away) this week.

With a few blokes returning from injury we had some significant pressure around the selection table for both sides this week. We remain confident in our teams to do what is required to win the chocolates this week. Both coaches evidenced some solid training this week after the Easter break and all lads look motivated to get back in the winners circle.

Flinders Park can be found at Hartley Road, Flinders Park with the B Grade commencing at 12:15pm and the A grade at 2:15pm.

We shall be returning back to Glandore for presentations after the game with official proceedings kicking off at 6pm. The bar will be open from 5pm for those who head straight there and there will be meals on straight after presentations (kids dinner will be earlier). Please make the effort to come back and hopefully celebrate a pair of wins.

FINALLY, FINALLY, FINALLY we return home the following week and face off against Golden Grove for the first home match of the season. There shall be singing, there shall be dancing and there shall be fireworks and that is just the half time show! Seriously though, we look forward to our first home game for Season 2017 on Saturday 29 April and encourage you all to attend.After two great games of victorious Dragon football we will be holding our Parents & Supporter Night function. This is aimed to welcome all parents, supporters and friends to the Dragons Den for Season 2017, get yourself listed on our supporter database and for every new sign up you will earn yourself a discounted drink! The night will involve great community camaraderie, dinner for the kids early and then meals will be available that night too so stick around have a glass of something and a meal in your football club. It is really important to build the support, build the following and make our first home game after party a big one.

After a disappointing pair of losses last Saturday against Walkerville your Dragons will hit the track hard tonight as we prepare for the next clash against Flinders Park on 22 April (at Flinders Park). Whilst the Reds may rate their chances, we think they’ll be seeing red after they encounter a refreshed Dragons line up post Easter Break.

We take this opportunity to remind you that we all have the weekend off for Easter but yourDragons will be working hard to both negate their chocolate intake but also regain momentum and continue the assault on Division 3.

Looking further ahead, on Saturday 29 April we finally return to our home deck and host Golden Grove in our Round 4 clash of 2017. That evening we will welcome all Parents & Supporters into the clubrooms for our first Parents & Supporters night. We will feed the kids at 5pm, have presentations around 5:30pm and then enjoy an evening of music and festivity. We will be serving a wholesome dinner, there will be drink specials throughout the night and for every Parent or Supporter who adds their details to our database you will get a voucher for our bar.

This is our first function of the year and all of you are encouraged to support us on this occasion.

The season is well underway after the Dragons ventured to the leafy streets of Mitcham, a stones throw away from the humble abode of our current president and undertook ouR maiden voyage into the realms of Division 3. A young B-grade side brimming with fresh faces after a successful recruiting period hit the ground running controlling play and exhibiting an impressive brand of football in the first half. Wayward kicking resulted in the reserves only leading by 7 points at the half, and they piled on 1 goal 10 behinds to a single goal in the third quarter, when they should have iced the game. Mitcham sensed an opportunity in the last term and scored a quick 5 goals to a single Dragons major to snatch the lead in the dying minutes. A long bomb from Clive Waterhouse lookalike and recent old scholar 'Esky' on the siren bounced through untouched as the Mitcham players celebrated in the square, levelling the game and saving what should have been an easy win. Coach Ryan Shipway was quoted after the game quoting a controversial Malcolm Blight line regarding drawn football matches that we won't repeat on this platform.

The A-grade had a similarly impressive start, showing link up handball and sharp passing that was arguably the best we've seen from a Dragons outfit in recent history. New recruit Shane Byrss made a statement with the first goal of the game launching a casual torpedo punt from 55 out on the run that sailed through the middle of the two tallest posts at that end of the oval. Best mate of Byrssy and recent Greenlow medal winner Ben Fisher must have felt threatened by his West Adelaide team mate however and took a trademark chest-mark hanger shortly after and squared up for his first major score of the game. Fish went on to kick three more for the Dragons adding to 3 goal hauls for fellow midfielders Scott Blesing, Rhys French and Mark Rusby. The Dragons ran out the game with a solid performance quelling a third quarter charge from Mitcham to win by 31 points.

Young old scholars Jack Lange and Todd Marsh were very impressive on debut as was ruckman Phil Middlin (ex Plympton/Norwood). Joel Steer, Russell McInerney and Rhys French also posted impressive first round performances.

This week the Dragons have requested an away game at Walkerville to allow Glandore Oval some time to recovery from recent irrigation works. A number of changes have occured in both grades allowing a bunch of players an opportunity to cement a spot going forward. Please note the changes to the fixture below.

Finally it has arrived. Finally you can stop talking about politics, weather and other conversation fillers. Finally footy season is upon us where friendships are made and strengthened, stories are told and embellished and good times roll.

This week is Round One of Season 2017. If the smell of linament and tiger balm gets you excited then buy some and head on down to Price Memorial Oval, on the corner of Angas Road & Hawthorn Road Hawthorn for our first clash of Division 3 football against the Mitcham Hawks. As with our usual start times, the Reserves kick off at 12:15pm with the A grade to follow at 2:15pm.

The excitement of Round One was evident at training this week as our boys were salivating with the opportunity to spend some time back at the Den and boy did we dig it up!

Coaches Luke Donaldson and Ryan Shipway had the unenviable task of picking two sides on Thursday night where some worthy Dragons missed out but with known player movements in the coming week or two, everyone will get their opportunity to earn and retain their spot in the sides. Pressure on a C grade is becoming evident and certainly represents some serious consideration for 2018 as we aim to climb through the Divisions with depth.

If we needed any more motivation to kick off with a win, we are delighted to be celebrating Nick Pynor’s 100th game this weekend. Nick has been a servant of the club for a decade now and represents the epitome of what is means to be a Dragon. Nick has and continues to serve as an on-field leader, he has and continues to hold office on the Committee and is a tireless servant in all facets of the club. We are inspired by Nick’s commitment to the cause and hope to honour him with a win in our first match of Division 3.

After the game concludes, we will head back to Glandore to share a meal and a drink and conduct a cheeky player auction for all supporters who like a flutter. See details below.
